My eggless pancakes really do taste like the real thing, I had my first anaphylactic shock from pancakes when I was 14 and it took me a long time to even try an eggless version, now I can’t stop eating them! These pancakes are perfect for Shrove Tuesday!
Cooking time: 1 minute per pancake (approx 30 seconds each side)
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Makes 4 pancakes
The Ingredients:
- 4oz Flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 9fl0z whole Milk
- 2 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp oil
- oil for cooking
The Method:
- Sift the flour in to a bowl
- Add the sugar and baking powder
- Mix the water and oil with the milk
- Add the milk mixture to the bowl and mix with a whisk or folk until it looks like a batter, don’t over mix it, it should still have some lumps in it
- Add some oil to a frying pan ( I add approx 2 tsp per pancake as the pancakes taste drier than pancakes with egg in) and heat until it’s smoking hot
- Add one ladle of the pancake mixture to the frying pan and move it quickly around the pan until it’s covered the bottom

- Lift the edge of the pancake and when it looks a little brown, flip it to cook the other side
- When the bottom of the pancake is slightly brown serve and add your favourite topping (mine is simply just lemon juice and sugar)

These look great, I am going to give them a go using rice milk as my son is allergic to dairy as well.
Bev – have you tried this yet? any good? I’m also egg and dairy free. Hoping they’ll be yummy so that i can enjoy pancake day!!
I am so glad i found this this morning! my boy cant have eggs, wheat, milk and soya!! so i will try this with his gluten free flour and he has a ‘special’ pepti junior formula milk (which i can use in cooking) so i will try this recipe. I really didnt want him to miss out on pancake day. Brilliant, thank you so much. xx
k so i tried it and they came out well ……… edible. They were really soft though so i added a tad bit more flour cuz the first one like stuck to the pot, maybe i used too much milk too eh not certain, but all in all it was a victory for the no eggie pancakes!!
hi can u use butter in stead of oil for fryin them in??
Hi Kathy – I’m sure you could use butter instead of oil, as long as you have some sort of fat in the pan to fry them. Let me know how you get on.
Thank you so much for this. My 18 month old daughter is allergic to eggs, and I didn’t want her or her older siblings to miss out on pancake day. They went down really well – every bit as good as eggy pancakes, especially by the time they were liberally sprinkled with sugar and lemon! We’re all absolutely stuffed now! I tried frying them in both butter and oil – both were fine, although I found they stuck less with oil. I doubled up the recipe (as there are 5 of us) and found it easily made 10 6″ pancakes. Yummy, yummy recipe, thank you! That’s one less thing my daughter has to miss out on!
Yay I’m glad you like them, I’m stuffed from eating them too (although I’m sure if I made another batch they would soon get eaten!)
I used this recipe since we were out of eggs. I had to add more flour, though, as it was more liquid than batter. Overall it was a good experience. I’m always happy to find recipes that compensate for my constantly running out of, for us, essential cooking ingredients.
Thanks so much i LOVED pancakes untill i got a rash from eggs my reaction is that bacd but it still looks ugly:-) and now i can eat again:-)!x
delicious! Had no eggs in and craving pancakes, perfect recipe!!
these egg less pancakes are divine!!! =D
These pancakes are lovely!! I normally eat them with egg but we didn’t hav any eggs in the house so I thought I would try with out and these were lovely!!
Thank You!
Just tried this recipe as my wife and daughter, although not allergic to eggs, just don’t like them! So I decided to try this egg free recipe as a surprise breakfast this morning and we all loved it! My wife actually prefers this to traditional pancakes. Plus I used Splenda instead of sugar and this worked really well so I will also be able to use for my father-in-law who is diabetic. Thank you for putting this recipe out there, it’s great and I will definitely be using it again. x
Hi,
Amazing, we arn’t allergic of eggs however we don’t have any in the house and too lazy to go buy more. This is a great alternative for the lazy people, like myself.
Thank you
2 Lazy pancake lovers !!
Made these the other day and they tasted amazing. I actually preferred them to pancakes with egg!
Made these for my 2 year old son who is allergic to eggs. I also made some without sugar and he loved these as wraps with houmous and cheese.
Thanks
I think they would be quite nice as a savoury pancake, I hadn’t thought of doing that, I think I’ll try them on pancake day without the sugar!
i just made these at 2:50am i know it was early but i wanted pancakes so i had a bite and its actually good
Oh my…..now completely stuffed after making and eating these pancakes! Made them using Doves Self Raising Gluten Free flour as son has Coeliac Disease as well as Egg Allergy. He filled his with white chocolate and ice cream and I had chocolate sauce and ice cream. All I can say is WOW!!!! Thanks for the recipe mx
These are nice using spinach and smoked fish, with a cheese sauce, very filling too.
Really looking forward to trying these with my 19month old son, who hasnt tried pancakes yet due to the egg, So we will be making pancakes together
Thank You
Really delicious – wanted pancakes no eggs – gave it a go – highly recommend these are so light and crispy -mmmm – definitely will have again – thank you!!
So glad you like the recipe, it seems to be a hit for those that can’t eat eggs and those that have just ran out! X
Delicious!
Just the thing to keep my egg ellergic boy happy on pancake day.
So tasty too.
My 7 year old son has been allergic to eggs & wheat since being a baby. I am so looking forward to trying this recipe and see his gorgeous smile when he comes home from school
Thank you.
Delicious! Thanks so much for sharing.. My eldest is allergic to egg and I am slowly building up a repertoire of serious alternatives. Ill be sure to check out your other recipes! Thanks again
I am going to make these today for my gorgeous but egg-allergic son this evening. I was wondering what type of oil you recommend using? Looking forward to seeing him have his first pancake (and be safe whilst doing so!).
I just used vegetable oil, I think any oil that doesn’t have a strong taste would work fine! (sorry for the delay in replying, hope you tried them anyway?!) x
These worked brilliantly – looked and smelt like a regular egg version but safe for my little boy who thoroughly enjoyed his pancake! Thanks for sharing this recipe x
These pancakes were fantastic. My 6yr old son, who has an egg allergy, was delighted to join us in our pancake day feast! Our egg free effort last year was disastrous and the recipe thrown away! We all had pancakes using this recipe and were pleasantly surprised. This recipe is a keeper!
I have just made these and they were delicious, thanks for posting this, I’ll use this again.
Thanks!! Ordered an Indian meal tonight as I was sulking due to lack of pancakes!! Will try recipe tomorrow, did make them last year with egg and spent rest of night in agony with my stomach ache, having an egg allergy is a complete pain so many thanks xx
This is a great recipe, my son has an egg allergy and hasn’t been able to have pancakes. We tried these tonight and they’re delicious, I don’t think you could tell the difference between a traditional batter mix and this. Fantastic thank you so much
I’m glad you all like the recipe, I agree you can’t taste the difference either!
I am amazed that eggless pancakes can look so good!
My pancakes exploded in the pan
Oh no. What happened?
I am not allergic to eggs, and I don’t know anyone who is. I am going to try this today because we don’t have any eggs in the house.
About to try these pancakes for my son who has an egg allergy. The pancakes look great and judging by all the feedback – they surely will Tate great too!! Thanks for sharing!!
Let me know what you think of them Tina!
Hi,
I’ve just made these with my 2 year old. Besides everything else that goes with the obvious worries of your child having an allergy, I was upset she’d never be able to properly enjoy cakes, pancakes, and my home made cookies. On pancake day we tried a shop bought powder mix that said egg yolk only but still my daughter spat it out (luckily she’s good at that, people offer her cake she gets excited bites it, then it must itch or hurt and she spits it all out). So my sister-in-law found your site and gave me the address. It’s taken me to now to use it because I’ve been attempting (failing) to diet, but after an episode of Peppa Pig flipping pancakes and then a couple of hours of “mommy pancakes” I gave in. I just want to thank you because we both LOVED them and it meant I could even give some to my 7 month old and not worry!!
And I mean it really really Thank You! I’ve always hoped prayed she’d grow out of it but now I’m not so worried because of this site. Next stop cupcakes I think? And to think she’ll be able to eat a birthday cake now using your hic sponge recipe is brilliant!
Thank you! Amy, Izzy and Will
Ps where’s your blog? Can you send me a link, I’d be really interested in reading more x
Hi Amy, Izzy & Will,
I’m glad you like my blog, pancakes are the one thing that I missed and now I make them all the time just because I can!
I only have recipes on my blog and there’s a little bit about my allergies on http://noeggs.co.uk/about although I’m thinking of expanding this section now as I’ve found some other great egg free recipes and information about products with no egg in them.
Happy baking to you all!
Jude x
GREAT!!!!GREAT!!!!GREAT!!!!NOTHING COULD BE GREATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, here I am, reading all these stories about people finding ways around tricky allergies, and I just didn’t have any eggs in the house! Super recipe, tasted just as good as the eggy version, and I’ll DEFINATELY use it again
I’m so glad people have taken the time to create recipes that allow people with allergies (or people with no eggs in the house) to eat just as yummy breakfasts :3
i make the pancakes on this morning for my kids my kids says it is the greatest recipe
thanks for this recipe me and my family always like this
I have no baking powder, will it be a problem for this recipe if i replace the 2tsp of baking powder with nomal flour or something?
Thank You
You can try, I haven’t tried it without! Let me know how you get on!
I am not allergic to eggs, but there weren’t any eggs in tne house and I wanted pancakes they were reallly nice!!!!
